Skills Ontario

Skills Ontario Competition hosts Canada’s largest skilled trades and technology competition, featuring over 140 trades and technology fields. I competed in the Photography category at the secondary level alongside 54 other contestants. This one-day competition focused on event photography and real-world industry practices.

OVERVIEW:

The competition consisted of five components: a printed photograph, a portfolio of 20 digital images, a post-production test, an event photography assignment, and a product photography assignment. Each component was evaluated based on creativity, technical execution, post-production quality, and proper export formatting.

PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT:

In this component, we were assigned a product photography task that required capturing and presenting a mystery object provided at the event, following a given client brief.

The image was evaluated on its immediate visual impact, clarity of subject, and ability to effectively market the product while minimizing distractions. I produced final deliverables in multiple formats, including full-resolution and web-optimized images, following professional naming conventions and export requirements.

POST-PRODUCTION ASSIGNMENT:

In this component, I edited and retouched high-resolution images provided in RAW format using Lightroom and Photoshop. The objective was to enhance the images by applying adjustments such as cropping, colour correction, exposure balancing, retouching, and detail refinement to create a visually impactful final result. The final edits were exported as full-resolution colour JPEGs, following specified naming conventions and submission requirements.
